Subject

Museum and Historical Society

Description

The Grant County Museum and Historical Society goes as far back as exhibiting the prehistoric roots of the Grant County area by including fossilized mammoth bones. Other exhibits reflect the Sioux and Chippewa heritage, along with preserved tools and other artifacts from the past. There is also a display on the early European settlers, culminating in a walk down an early 20th century street. Some other artifacts on display include an old ox car, a stagecoach, a furnished log cabin, and a schoolhouse. As well, the Museum and Historical Society also offer genealogical study for the public. The types of the material available for research include past censuses, indexed obituary and marriage records, naturalization records from 1883 to 1943, past Grant County newspapers, plat books, and unique histories on the community itself. This research does cost five dollars per hour and any addition charge on photocopying.
