Description
An account of the resource
The Sebeka Historical Society holds a city museum, which is dedicated to the preservation of early Finnish settlers. It is housed in an historic cabin, and collections include vintage clothing, antique furnishings, early radios and cameras, and other family memorabilia from the late 1800s to early 1900s. The other buildings on site include the Anderson Pioneer Store, the first store in Sebeka, and Jefferson Highway, which used to be the essential highway for travelers, reaching from New Orleans, Louisiana to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The society’s vision is to “recycle the town’s history, taking things that may no longer have a functional use, but provide a rich context of the area’s heritage.”

Description
An account of the resource
Verndale was founded in 1878, and the museum, hosted by the Verndale Historical Society, “shows just how much history and intrigue can be found in the small towns of northern Minnesota.” The photo collection contains pictures of local families over the years, war heroes, and Minnesota’s volunteer infantry unit in the Civil War. From exhibits on Verndale’s most famous citizen, General Lesley S. McNair, a four-star general, the town’s historic grist mill, and photos from Verndale’s annual 4th of July celebration, there is a wide variety of history to see. The museum also gives the public access to five of the old Wadena County newspapers including, the Wadena County Tribune, the Verndale Journal, the Wadena Journal, the Wadena Pioneer Journal, and the Verndale Sun, all ranging from the 1870s to the present. Mong the other research the museum holds, they also include old pictures and histories on the first settlement of the town, maps on the old business districts during the late 1800s and maps on the Green Lawn Cemetery.
