Historical Society and Museum
The goal of the museum is to preserve and share the early days of Akeley, when the area was known for having the largest sawmill in the state. It contains a wide collection of artifacts photos and documents pertaining to the region, including the Akeley census for 1895 as well as a 1900 Akeley Township record. The statue of Paul Bunyan is located directly in front of the museum itself.

Hubbard County Historical Society and Museum
Historical Society and Museum
The Hubbard County Historical Society and Museum is situated in the county’s first courthouse, with each room featuring a different aspect of early life in Hubbard County. In the Ira Benham Resource Center, located on the first floor of the museum, it hosts as the site for all of the Society’s archives, photos, and information on genealogy research. Some of the information that they have include birth and death records, censuses from 1885 to 1905, enterprise newspapers from 1882 to 1890, funeral home and cemetery records, naturalization records, marriage and obituary records, plat books, and WWII Military scrapbooks. They also hold information on the Ojibwe tribe including information on their past treaties, a Chippewa Half-Breed Scrip, a White Earth Land Lists of 1911 and Indian Allotment List and Numbers. Among their exhibits, the Society and Museum include other sites such as a Pioneer cabin, a one-room School House, a room on High School Memory featuring past year books, a Communication Room featuring old typewriters and switchboards, farming tools, Native American artifacts, and vintage textiles.
