Historic School & Museum
The museum is located in a school erected in 1912 and functions as both a museum and a community center. Within the school, one of the old classrooms remains, exhibiting artifacts from an original school day during the pioneer years. As well, the grounds also holds a pioneer log home, that displays other living tools and furnishings from the late 1800s to early 1900s.

Sand Hill Settlement Historical Society
Historical Society and Museum
The Sand Hill Settlement Historical Society supplies collection of historical buildings that provide visitors with a look at life in an earlier time. The society is establishing a “working pioneer farmstead” by maintaining the 1871 homestead of Ole O. Estenson, a pioneer in the Red River Valley. The homestead includes the Estenson’s barn and cabin that the Estenson’s lived in during the pioneer days.

Roseau Pioneer Farm & Village
Pioneer Farm & Village
The Roseau Pioneer Farm and Village serves as historical sites to represent and display the agriculture and past pioneer way of living in that area. Within their grounds, they have a post office with old switchboards, a general store, a print shop featuring old Roseu newspapers from the late 1800s to early 1940s, an old school house from the Wannaska area, a church featuring records on past members, a blacksmith shop, a log cabin, and amphitheater. They also serve a fall festival, pioneer school days, Scandinavian days, car shows, and holiday lighting all throughout the year.

Roseau County Historical Society
Historical Society and Museum
The Roseau County Historical Society has been in existence for more than 95 years, and the museum portrays the past as well as the present. They include, within their museum, old photos and artifacts on the county’s past development such as information on agriculture, manufacturing and trade. As well, they also have artifacts and histories on the Native American settlements and a Military Service file that holds photographs and biographies on past military personnel. Alongside their exhibits, the Roseau County Historical Society also includes an extensive amount of research material for genealogy information. This feature does cost five dollars for one-on-one help; however, they still include cemetery, obituary, and death indexes, starting from the late 1800s, within and the surrounding counties of Roseau. Other information they include are school and county tax records, marriage and naturalization indexes from 1904 to 1915, files on past businesses and churches, past high school yearbooks and past Roseau county newspapers from the late 1880s to present.

Red River History Museum

The Red River History Museum has many unique things to offer, such as the Loom Room. This room has 3 large working looms, with which they hold weaving classes (please call one of the numbers below to see class schedules). Also, they have other areas dedicated to doctors, schools, military uniforms, and old toys.

Red Lake County Historical Society
Historical Society and Museum
The Red Lake county Historical Society works to preserve the history of Red Lake County, starting with the first settlers and their earliest settlements. Much of the information can be found on a CD entitled, “A History of Red Lake County,” produced by the Historical Society and available for sale. Some of the histories that they Society includes within its research is the formation of the county, histories on past settlers from the townships, information on the prohibition period within the county, and early lifestyles of the pioneer settlers.

Prospect House and Civil War Museum

The Pope County Historical Society holds the Pope County Museum and is dedicated to the preservation of stories and journals of early residents. The museum gives access to a genealogy library including past histories on families and business ranging from the late 1800s to early 1900s. Among that information the museum includes census records from 1870 to 1920, cemetery indexes and maps, manuscripts, articles and books from local authors, photo collections, newspapers dating to 1871 and other church records.

Polk County Historical Society
Historical Society and Museum
The Polk County Historical Society has been collecting and preserving the inspiring story of the people of Polk County for 75 years. Books, maps pamphlets, newspapers, pictures and other objects have been collected. The museum.s authentic exhibits show how Valley pioneers lived, the tools and implements they worked with, the clothes they wore, the utensils and furnishings they used in their homes and countless other articles related to other aspects of their lives. The museum was located at the old McKinley School for several years and in 1976 was moved to its present location, the former Glendenning building on the east side of Crookston.
The main museum, a large modern structure, contains a well furnished kitchen, living room and bedroom, a general store, doctor’s office, barber shop. Beauty shop, communications center (telephone and switchboard center), a 50 year old model electric train and musical instruments. Here too, stands a square piano made in Boston, and an amazing assortment of ladies hats. Antique tools, and many old records, including newspapers on microfilms, dating back to the mid 1800’s, cemetery locations and names of persons buried there. There is also a chapel and a composite of furnishings from several churches.
Outside buildings include a large collection of farm machinery of all kinds including about 20 different antique tractors in running condition, a Fairchild single seater airplane used for crop dusting, a collection of many fire fighting trucks and other items, an 1870 log house, two room log house built in 1881, a one room school house (all completely furnished), a blacksmith shop and a church dating back to the late 1800’s (also completely furnished).
We do provide genealogy research services and other historical document research for a donation of $10.00 per hour.

Pequot Lakes Historical Society
Historical Society and Museum
The Pequot Lakes Historical Society’s primary focus is to preserve the life within the Pequot Lake area. Within the society, they hold the Pequot Lakes Area Historical Society Museum, which is located in the restored Cole Memorial Building. The areas of coverage that the Museum exhibits are lifestyle memorabilia from the early 1930s to 1940s. They also contain different site buildings including an old schoolhouse, a general store, and an old theater. A military section that contains past artifacts from both the First and Second World Wars is also exhibited. Among other information within their collection, the Pequot Lakes Area Historical Society Museum also has collections of family scrapbooks and photos from the early 1900s.
