The Pennington County Historical Society includes a pioneer village, which has a collection of 19 historical buildings, showing what life was like in Pennington County a hundred years ago. Many people enjoy viewing the past recreational and sporting goods, including tractors and snowmobiles that the society has on hand. As well, the museum maintains research materials, including cemetery records, obituary records, and an online collection of more than 7,000 photographs from the late 19th century to early 20th century. They also include the Thief River Falls Times newspapers from 1920 to 1966 within their past information. The pioneer village is used for the special Goodridge Bicentennial, as well as local weddings and events.

The Otter Tail County Historical Society holds a museum, research library and educational resource facility for the community of Otter Tail County. Their museum holds permanent exhibits that include information on the environment, the fur trade, immigration, Native American history, agricultural lifestyle and past recreation in the Otter Tail County during the late 1800s to early 1900s. Within its library, the Otter Tail County Historical Society has available the following indexes: birth records from 1871 to 1901, marriage licenses from 1869 to 1991, death records from 1869 to 1918, cemetery records from 1865 to the present, obituaries from 1871 to the present, naturalization records from 1870 to 1919, a history of the county published in 196, and plat books in the years 1884, 1902, 1912, 1925, and 1933. They also have extensive research on military history, past townships, multiple other online databases for extended research. Performing research does cost six dollars per day and any photocopies made are 25 cents each. Within their educational resource facility, the Society holds numerous amounts of kits and lessons for students to participate in and have hands on experience with. These include usage of photographs, artifacts, historical documents and live demonstrations.

Within the Norman County Historical Society, there are two separate sites that it contains. This include the Prairie Village in Ada, MN, which is dedicated in telling the story of the county’s founding and the early settlers that created it. The village contains 12 historic buildings, holding photos, past artifacts and tools that that the pioneers used. Throughout the year, the Prairie Village holds both the Norman County Fair in June and Pioneer Days after Labor Day weekend. The second site is the Red River Museum, located in 211 3rd St., Shelley, MN, and contains a replica of a 1930’s school house, featuring a usable Loom Room and an extensive military collection.

The Minnesota Lakes Maritime Museum is dedicated to the lakes, boats, boat builders, and the history of different boats within the Alexandria area. The museum features a historic look into the boat making business, going back to 1885 and includes artifacts such as boat making tools and machinery that people used during that time period. They also include vintage replicas of the first boats ever made, as well as past photos and histories about the first builders, themselves. They also have access to the Grand Hotels & Resorts, which holds past information on what the accommodations used to host for people in the early 1900s. They also have the Minnesouri Club’s Summer Porch, which was built by a conjoined club to better improve the social culture of its members. Featured on the grounds are a variety of boat shows, community educational programs, and musical events in the garden.

The Marshall County Historical Society includes the Settler’s Square, which consists of numerous amounts of historic buildings that represent the county during the late 1800s. Included in the historic buildings are a Local Bank, a Saloon, a Photographer’s Studio, a Barbershop, a General Store, and a Millinery Store. As well, they also include a depot station, the Alma Church, and other cabins and shops. Within these sites, they offer exhibits featuring military uniforms and artifacts, vintage children’s toys, old agricultural machinery and tools, and vintage vehicles, including the famous UFO car. Throughout the year, the Marshall County Historical Society offer special events including, the Marshall County Fair at the end of July and Grinding Days at the Old Mill in late August.
